Junior Pennant News

The Blue Team

The Blue team faced Keysborough who had only lost 1/2 a point from the first 2 matches.

Josh Gong won his match 7/6 and Elbert Kim was rock solid winning 6/5.  Eric Zhuang and Lachlan Snart both came up against strong opponents and whilst both boys played to their handicap it wasn’t quite enough on the day.

Michael Yuen led all day and closed out his match on the 16th giving Riversdale a 3 – 2 lead.  Nick Horvath was the last player on course and after building a strong lead thru 9 was then faced with a spirited fight back from his opponent. After a nice 5 wood to the front of the 17th green, Nick played a beautiful chip that rolled gentle into the cup to secure the win.

The win gives the Blue team an outside chance of still making the finals.

John Horvath.  And what do you do after a Pennant Game?  You practice your putting.

The White Team

Congratulations to all players in our match against Woodlands last Sunday.

Although we were not successful losing 4/2, all players put in great efforts and we were unlucky in a couple of matches that could have gone our way. Well done to Zane winning 4/3 with Amy and Noah halving their matches.

The positive sportsmanship was very obvious in all matches and all players are a credit to themselves, parents and Riversdale Arthur Loughridge

The Gold Team

Great win last Sunday again led by Captain Tyler, who was able to make his winning speech.

School Sports Victoria

Congratulations to Eric Zhuang who made the Victorian 12 and under Team with an 83 gross.
The final of the Australian Schools  Competition will be played on the Bellarine Peninsula in November .
We wish him all the best in his golfing endeavours.

The final round of the Junior Pennant was held on the Sunday 27th November 2016. at Spring Valley.  Spring Valley won on the day.   Our Team put up a very good fight this year.   Well, done everyone.  It was the first time many of players had  played  this format and I know they will walk away knowing they have improved their golf and knowledge.

Lachlan Tatterson went through under defeated.  Fabulous result.

In the photo we have Declan Godfree, Harry Zhang, Blair Mason (Captain), Lachlan Tatterson, Amy Yu and Akysha Karunaratne.

Playing The Course

Members are welcome to accompany their children or grandchildren (under 18 years) on the course any day of the week after 4pm.

Some things to consider when promoting the game to juniors:

  • Have fun – don’t worry about results.
  • Tee the ball up on the fairway.
  • Play shorter holes – from the ladies markers or the start of the fairway.
  • Play Ambrose or other fun variations of the game
  • Teach basic rules and ettiquete – i.e. carry sand buckets, where to stand, courtesy to other players, pace of play etc.
