Over the past months, we have been communicating about our Kikuyu eradication program for our rough lines and over-seeding these areas to promote coverage before the winter months.
Unfortunately, we have skipped Autumn this year and gone straight from Summer to Winter. Twenty millimetres of rain fell over a ten-week period during summer, a great comparison to the 130 millimetres in the past 18 days.
Ideally, we would have liked to receive around 70mm for the month of April, which would be around average rainfall and warmer weather than we are currently experiencing, which would have seen great germination of our seed and fewer areas of soft and undesirable playing conditions of our rough lines.
To remove Kikuyu grass, we must take a few steps backwards before moving forward with our eradication program, and the recent weather has highlighted this even more. Due to the current conditions, we have decided to place a temporary local rule over the entire rough to help improve playability and member enjoyment.
We hope the weather reverts to more normal Autumn conditions, which will benefit seed germination and our golfing enjoyment.
