JUNIOR NEWS
June 2025
Greetings to All Riversdale Junior Members
Winter has started and temperatures have dropped. It is still a good time for golf – any time is good for golf.
The Junior Development Trophy is under way and many players already have scores contributing to their final aggregate score. Remember – the winner has the highest aggregate of their 4 best scores played at Riversdale.
On Sunday June 29, we have reserved 3 tee times after 12.30 for Junior members and Cadets who would like to put in a card for the Junior Development Trophy. After golf you are invited upstairs for some afternoon tea and a drink. This is a great opportunity to meet other Junior golfers. The timesheet will open on Monday June 23 for golf bookings on Sunday June 29.
If you would like to play on the day but don’t have a handicap yet, please contact me so that I can find a place on the timesheet for you.
The school holidays are only a couple of weeks away. On Tuesday July 8 we will giving a presentation on Matchplay. After the presentation we will accompany players on course guiding through 9 holes of Matchplay. After golf you are invited up to the bar for afternoon tea and a chat.
Match play is a form of play where a player plays directly against an opponent in a head-to-head match. You win a hole by completing it in fewer strokes than your opponent, and you win a match when you are winning by more holes than remain to be played.
There are some different rules and conventions in Matchplay which is what we will talk about in the presentation. The Junior Pennant season starts in October – this presentation will be very helpful for those players wishing to be part of the Riversdale Junior Pennant Squad.
The Presentation will be at 1pm followed by golf. I will need to know numbers for the session. Please email me on geraldinebiggs99@gmail.com to tell me you would like to join the Presentation and golf.
I am considering creating a WhatsApp group for Junior Riversdale members. If you’d like to be in the WhatsApp group, I would need you to tell me your mobile number and your parents also need to approve.

Sunday time sheet
Each Sunday, tee times will be reserved for Junior Members. Play will be from the 10th tee. You don’t have to play at this time but if perhaps you don’t know many other Junior members this is an opportunity to meet other young players. This could also be a chance to get cards in if you are wanting to get your handicap.
Junior members who would like to play should put their names directly on the timesheet. Bookings open 6 days prior to the day of play at 1.30 PM. If you have any questions, please contact the Golf Shop or you can contact me.
If the reserved places are not filled by Friday each week they will be opened up to the rest of the Club, so you need to plan ahead.
Junior Development Trophy
The Junior Development Trophy will be played through the winter months – June, July, August. You need a handicap to participate so, if you don’t already have a handicap perhaps you could work towards getting one. The professionals in the golf shop can help you with guidance as to how to get your handicap. If you need help to get your cards in, please contact me.
The winner of The Junior Development Trophy 2025 will be the player with the highest aggregate (total) of 4 Stableford cards, with rounds played at Riversdale in competition through the winter months – June, July August. There is no limit to how many rounds you play. If you only play 4 rounds, they will be the scores that count. If you play 10 rounds over that time, the best 4 will count to the final total.
- You must have a handicap to play in the competition. (if you don’t have a handicap yet, now is the time to get some cards in).
- The Junior Development Trophy is open to all Junior members 18 years and under and cadets.
- You don’t have to do anything special – play golf in competition at Riversdale and the score will be counted.
Presentation to the winner of the JDT will be on September 21 which is also the final round of the Junior Championship.

February 2025
Hello to all Riversdale Junior members. I am writing to introduce myself – Gerri Biggs and I am taking over the role of Junior Coordinator. Tini McKimm has devoted 10 years to the role and decided last year to step down. I’m sure you would like to thank Tini for her devotion and commitment to the Junior members of Riversdale. The Junior membership has grown immensely over the last few years and this growth has contributed greatly to the success of our Youth and Men’s Pennant teams. Our Women’s Pennant team also now has benefited from strong Junior members.
Over the coming months, the Junior Development Committee will be offering information sessions on rules and various aspects of the game. We will also be providing playing opportunities to meet other juniors and learn different forms of the game of golf.
Tee times will be reserved for Junior members to play on a Sunday afternoon. This is an opportunity to meet and play with other Junior members. If you would like to play on a Sunday afternoon you need to put your name on the registration sheet that is exclusively for Junior members wanting to play on a Sunday afternoon. Alternatively, you can contact the golf shop. If the places are not filled by Thursday, the time slots will be opened up to the rest of the membership. Remember that the booking sheet opens at 1.30 pm, 6 days prior to the day of play.
Some of you will have participated in the Junior Development Trophy over past years. The format will be different this year. The Junior Development Trophy will run over the winter months – June, July, August. The competition will be open to Junior members 18 years and under (turning 18 this year) and Cadets. The trophy will be awarded to the player with the highest aggregate of 4 Stableford cards submitted over the 3 months. All games must be played at Riversdale. If you play more than 4 games over those months, the best 4 will count to the aggregate. The presentation to the winner will be on Sunday 21st September after the 2nd round of the Junior Championship.
For those of you who make bookings already, you know that on the timesheet, male members are in black and female members are in red. We will soon be having our junior members represented in green. This is so that Junior members will know who are other Juniors and be easily be able to play together.
Finally, the home page of the Club’s website has a list of “Quick Links” on the left side. You will soon see a tab for “Juniors”. This will take you to information relevant to Junior members.
